On the morning of September 8, 1983, a violent encounter cut short the life of Joseph George Jaha, a 56-year-old White/Caucasian male and a veteran living in Portland, Oregon. At approximately 9:30 a.m., two masked individuals armed with handguns entered the Sea Sands Seafood Market, a business located on Southeast Belmont Street that Jaha owned with his brother.
The intruders demanded money, leading to a physical struggle.
In the ensuing chaos, Joseph Jaha was shot and killed, and his brother sustained injuries. The suspects were described as two white males, one taller with dark hair and the other shorter with sandy-colored hair. After the altercation, the two men fled the scene.
Despite the presence of a witness and descriptions of the assailants, the case remains unsolved. To this day, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Joseph George Jaha. The Portland Police Bureau lists his death as a cold case and continues to solicit information from the public, offering a cash reward for tips that lead to an arrest in the still-unresolved homicide.
