In the early morning hours of August 10, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Portland, Oregon neighborhood, leaving a tragic scene in its wake. Among the victims was David Turner, a 45-year-old Black man, who was fatally shot in the Madison South neighborhood. The incident, which occurred around 5:19 a.m. near Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Milton Street, also claimed the life of his cousin, Odion Turner.
David Turner, known in the hip-hop community as Murdock, and his
cousin, who went by the stage name 12 O'Clock, were both affiliated with the Wu-Tang Clan through the group Brooklyn Zu. Their sudden and violent deaths sent shockwaves through their families and the music world. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that both men died from gunshot wounds and ruled their deaths as homicides.
The shooting was a chaotic event, with multiple individuals sustaining injuries. In addition to the two fatalities, three other people were transported to local hospitals by ambulance for treatment of their injuries. A sixth victim arrived at a hospital in a private vehicle with life-threatening injuries. The scale of the violence prompted an immediate and extensive investigation by the Portland Police Bureau's Homicide detectives.
When officers first arrived at the scene, they found a grim scenario with multiple victims. Despite securing the area and searching for those responsible, no suspects were immediately located. In the days following the shooting, police appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the perpetrator or perpetrators. However, the investigation has not yet resulted in any publicly announced arrests or the naming of any suspects in the murders of David and Odion Turner. The case remains an open and ongoing homicide investigation.
