On April 29, 1992, the body of a white male was discovered floating in the Columbia River at Kelley Point, near the mouth of the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon. The body, estimated to have been in the water for seven to ten days, was later identified as 45-year-old John Warner Nolen, a former police officer from Tacoma, Washington. An autopsy determined that Nolen had died from a gunshot wound.
