On March 2, 2015, 29-year-old Marquis Delon Chaney was fatally shot in North Portland, Oregon. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of North Blandena Street and Commercial Avenue. Chaney was inside a white car when he was shot multiple times in the head and neck, causing the vehicle to collide with a parked van.
Witnesses reported hearing four to five gunshots before observing the aftermath of the collision.
Chaney, a resident of the neighborhood and a Jefferson High School graduate, was pronounced dead at the scene. Family members and friends, including his sister and cousin, arrived shortly after, expressing profound grief and describing him as 'a good kid.'
The Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Division, with assistance from the Gang Enforcement Team, launched an investigation into the shooting, considering the possibility of gang-related motives.
