On January 19, 1989, 42-year-old Thomas Patrick Ryan was found murdered in his Portland, Oregon apartment at 4509 SW Vermont Street. Police discovered Ryan’s body during a welfare check after concerns were raised. Upon entering his locked apartment with the help of the building manager, officers found that Ryan had died due to homicidal violence. His 1979 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was missing and was later located in Washington State, across from Umatilla, Oregon.
