on Monday, May 11, when deputies from the Crook County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found William Brown dead at the home. The investigation revealed that the shooting was a result of a domestic dispute between the father and son. Neighbors, who were shocked by the event, confirmed that the two men had been living together and had been feuding for some time. One neighbor stated, 'All I know is, the father shot the son, and the son's dead'.
William George Brown Sr., the 72-year-old father, was identified as the suspect in the shooting. He was taken into custody late Friday afternoon on May 15, 2015, and charged with murder and manslaughter. Brown Sr. was arrested at the Crook County Sheriff's Office and lodged in the county jail without bail, pending his arraignment in circuit court.
The investigation was conducted by the Crook County Sheriff's Office, assisted by the Oregon State Police and the OSP crime lab, as well as the office of District Attorney Daina Vitolins. Undersheriff John Gautney stated that there were no outstanding suspects and that all persons involved were being interviewed by law enforcement, emphasizing that there was no additional threat to the community.
During the investigation, it was noted that the son had moved in with his father due to his failing health. The father, who was reported to have had a medical issue at the time of the incident, was taken to Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Prineville after the shooting.
