On a Sunday morning in Portland, Oregon, the life of 22-year-old Gabrielle Lynn Dozhier was tragically cut short. On April 10, 2022, at approximately 10:15 a.m., officers responded to a shooting near Southwest Clay Street and Southwest 12th Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Dozhier suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical aid was rendered at the scene, and she was transported to a local hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that her death was a homicide caused by a gunshot wound.
Another woman was also injured in the incident but her injuries were not life-threatening. The investigation into the shooting led to the swift apprehension of a suspect later that same day. The individual taken into custody was identified as Kirk Clarence Mickels, who was 36 years old at the time.
Mickels was subsequently booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on multiple charges related to the incident. These charges included Murder in the Second Degree, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Fourth Degree, Kidnapping in the Second Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. In the wake of her death, Dozhier's family was notified and provided a photograph of her for public release, while requesting privacy during their time of grief.
