In the spring of 2019, the life of 39-year-old James G. Richardson, a male, was tragically cut short in Portland, Oregon. Police Bureau led to the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office, which determined that Richardson's death was a homicide caused by a gunshot wound. For months, the case remained under active investigation as detectives worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. The Lents neighborhood, where Richardson was found, had been experiencing a notable increase in violent crime, adding a layer of concern for the community. In the weeks following Richardson's death, there was no publicly available information regarding any potential suspects.
Several months later, a significant development in the case emerged. On December 4, 2019, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office announced that a grand jury had indicted 29-year-old David Remone Jones for the murder of James Gerald Richardson. The indictment, which was filed on July 9, 2019, included charges of murder with a firearm, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. It was alleged that Jones, a convicted felon, had unlawfully and intentionally caused Richardson's death by using a firearm.
Prior to the announcement of the indictment, Jones had been located and apprehended in Texas. On December 3, 2019, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Task Force transported him back to Oregon to face the charges against him.
