In the early morning hours of August 30, 2019, the life of 19-year-old Logan Karli Nettleton, a White female, was tragically cut short in her Portland, Oregon apartment. Responding to reports of a shooting at a residence near Southeast 174th Avenue and Powell Boulevard at approximately 3:33 a.m., police discovered Nettleton with a fatal gunshot wound.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, and the medical examiner later ruled her death a homicide.
At the time of the incident, Nettleton was not alone. A man, identified as her then-boyfriend, was also in the apartment and sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries but ultimately survived. A young child, the son of the injured man, was also present in the home during the shooting but was thankfully unharmed. Nettleton was a loving mother to her own young son, who was not present at the time of the shooting.
Despite the presence of a surviving eyewitness, the investigation into Logan Nettleton's murder has remained frustratingly unsolved. In the years following her death, her family has continued to plead for answers and for justice for the young mother who was described as a smart, fiercely independent, and caring individual with a bright future. She was a student at Portland State University, majoring in criminal justice with aspirations of helping those who had been failed by the system.
As of late 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with her murder, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Unit continues to investigate the case, and Crime Stoppers of Oregon has offered a cash reward for any information that leads to an arrest. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, leaving a grieving family and community searching for answers in the senseless killing of a young woman in her own home.
