In the early morning hours of May 28, 1997, a tragic event unfolded in Portland, Oregon, that cut short the life of 34-year-old Wendy Kay Lim, a Caucasian female. The night was like any other, as Lim rode as the front passenger in a car driven by an associate. They were navigating the streets near the intersection of North Webster and North Albina Street when they decided to pull over.
The purpose of their stop was to have a brief conversation with a friend known only as "Bobby."
As they were stopped, another vehicle, described as a white car, approached theirs. Inside this car were two African-American men. Without warning, the passenger in the white car opened fire on the vehicle occupied by Lim and her associate. Multiple shots were fired into the car, striking both occupants. The gunfire proved fatal for Wendy Lim, and her companion was also wounded in the attack. Emergency services were called to the scene, and Lim was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she was pronounced dead a short time later.
