On January 24, 2009, a tragic incident occurred outside The Zone nightclub in downtown Portland, Oregon, resulting in the deaths of two young women, including 16-year-old Ashley Lauren Wilks. Wilks, a sophomore at Clackamas High School, was part of a Rotary Youth Exchange program and was preparing to study abroad. She and her friends, including other exchange students, were waiting in line to enter the nightclub when the shooting took place.
