In the quiet town of Baker City, Oregon, a grim discovery was made on January 13, 2020, shattering the winter calm. Angela Michelle Parrish, a 30-year-old Caucasian woman, was found dead from a gunshot wound inside a building on H Street. The tragic event unfolded after emergency responders were initially called to the scene for a man who had been shot in the hand.
That man, 37-year-old Nathaniel Leeland Brown, was transported to a local hospital for his injuries.
It was during the investigation into Brown's shooting that law enforcement became aware of a second potential victim. Brown informed the authorities that a woman was inside one of the nearby buildings. This led the Baker County Major Crime Team to a building on an adjacent property to the Bureau of Land Management office, where they found Parrish's body. The property was formerly known as the New Tribes Mission.
The investigation quickly pointed to one suspect in both shootings: 48-year-old Shawn Quentin Greenwood of Vale. Investigators learned that Greenwood, who was identified as Parrish's former boyfriend, might be driving a late-model Toyota pickup truck. A search for the vehicle ensued, and Malheur County Sheriff's Office deputies located and pulled over the pickup near Mormon Basin. Greenwood was taken into custody and lodged in the Baker County Jail.
Following his arrest, Shawn Quentin Greenwood was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Angela Michelle Parrish. He also faced two counts of second-degree assault for the shooting of Nathaniel Leeland Brown. Authorities indicated that additional charges could be forthcoming pending a grand jury review. The investigation suggested a tragic and violent end to a former relationship, leaving a community to mourn the loss of a young woman.
