A White female, Maribella was known for her love of life, often seen dancing, singing, and dressing up in costumes. She was a preschooler at Peninsula Children's Learning Center and was looking forward to starting kindergarten in the fall.
Her days were often filled with joy, spending time with her father, Jesse Zachariah Willard, on almost daily visits to Columbia Park in Portland, Oregon, and enjoying trips to museums and the zoo.
On May 8, 2014, Maribella was found deceased in her North Portland home alongside her 34-year-old father, Jesse. It was Maribella's mother who made the devastating discovery. The circumstances of their deaths pointed to a grim conclusion. Authorities indicated that Maribella was a victim of gun violence, and the investigation centered on her father as the sole suspect in a murder-suicide. No other suspects were sought, and no arrests were made in connection with her death.
Jesse Willard had been struggling with significant personal challenges. He was a stay-at-home father to Maribella and had a history of a serious bipolar mental disorder. His difficulties were compounded by an automobile accident the previous year, which left him with chronic severe back pain and impaired vision from a head injury. Despite these struggles, those who knew the family described a father who loved his daughter very much.
