In the winter of 1987, the residents of the Clifford Hotel in Southeast Portland began to notice a foul odor seeping from room 424. As the smell intensified, the manager and a maintenance worker were compelled to investigate on December 10th. Forcing the door open, they made a grim discovery. The partially decomposed body of Debora Lynett Longoria was inside the apartment she called home. An autopsy would later reveal the cause of her death was an assault with a blunt instrument.
