Breanna Don Dapron, a 20-year-old resident of Creswell, Oregon, passed away on January 23, 2023, due to injuries sustained in a shooting incident that occurred on January 19, 2023, in Eugene, Oregon. The incident took place at a residence located at 2810 W. 18th Avenue, where Eugene Police Department responded to reports of shots fired late in the evening.
Upon arrival, police found Breanna Don Dapron suffering from life-threatening injuries, while another victim, 31-year-old Dylan Wayne
George, was found deceased inside the residence. Breanna was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
The shooting was believed to be a targeted incident. The EPD arrested three individuals in connection with the double homicide. Vaughn Pierre Derry Jr., 24, of Eugene, was arrested on January 23, 2023, and charged with two counts of Murder in the First Degree and one count of Robbery in the First Degree. DeJuan Debrail Stevens, 24, of Eugene, was arrested the next day on similar charges. A third person, Mridul Raghav, 21, of Eugene, was arrested on January 27, 2023, and charged with two counts of Murder in the Second Degree and one count of Robbery in the First Degree.
In the subsequent legal proceedings, Vaughn Derry took a plea deal in August 2024, receiving a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 30 years, along with a concurrent 90-month sentence for robbery. DeJuan Stevens was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years for his role in the double homicide. Mridul Raghav, the getaway driver, was previously convicted of two counts of Robbery in the First Degree and sentenced to 150 months in the Department of Corrections plus 36 months of post-prison supervision.
Breanna Don Dapron was a standout athlete at Creswell High School, graduating with the Class of 2021. She excelled in volleyball and basketball, earning numerous awards and accolades, including first-team all-league in volleyball and all-state honors in both sports. She was remembered by her coaches and community for her talent, dedication, and friendly demeanor.
A Celebration of Life was held for Breanna at Creswell High School on February 11, 2023, where friends, family, and former classmates gathered to share stories and memories of her life. Breanna's family also established a GoFundMe campaign to help cover her final expenses and medical costs.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Breanna was known for her caring nature, particularly in her work with elderly patients. She is survived by her parents, Daryl and Brenda Dapron; her brothers, Wes Violette and Dustin Dapron; her nieces, Rylea and Addie Violette; and other family members and friends. Her untimely death also allowed her to save the lives of four people through organ donation.
