In the quiet community of Eugene, Oregon, a dark event unfolded that would leave a lasting scar. Sixteen-year-old Caucasian female Karren Etta Whiteside was a young woman with her life ahead of her, but it was tragically cut short on a late winter night. On the evening of March 21, or in the early morning hours of March 22, 1978, Karren was walking to a friend's house when she was attacked in an alcove at Fairfield Elementary School located at 3455 Royal Avenue.
