In the early morning hours of October 27, 2015, the life of a 43-year-old White woman, Athena L. Slavin, was tragically cut short in her Eugene, Oregon home. Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at her residence on Compton Street shortly after 3 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ms. Slavin deceased inside the house under circumstances that were immediately deemed suspicious.
As the investigation unfolded, it became clear that this was not a random act of
violence. The Lane County Medical Examiner later confirmed that Athena L. Slavin's cause of death was a gunshot wound, and her death was ruled a homicide. A search for a possible suspect was initiated, involving a K-9 unit. This search led to the discovery of a man's body near a pond not far from the initial scene.
The deceased man was identified as 44-year-old Jeffrey Brian March. Authorities determined that March had died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Further investigation revealed that he and Slavin had been in a previous relationship. The tragic event was ultimately classified as a murder-suicide. As the perpetrator took his own life, there were no arrests made in connection with the death of Athena L. Slavin.
