In the quiet community of Four Corners, Oregon, the life of 21-year-old Hispanic male Eduardo Flores Rodriguez was tragically cut short in a burst of violence on the night of January 22, 2020. What began as an ordinary evening ended in a triple shooting that would leave one man dead and a family grappling with a devastating loss. Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene following reports of a car crash.
They discovered Flores Rodriguez inside a vehicle that had collided with a van; he had sustained a critical gunshot wound to the head.
Despite being rushed to a Salem hospital, his injuries proved to be insurmountable. Eduardo Flores Rodriguez succumbed to his injuries and passed away on January 23, 2020. In the chaotic aftermath of the shooting, two other men, who had also been shot, independently sought medical attention at a local hospital. Fortunately, their wounds were not life-threatening, and they were subsequently treated and released. The incident left the community in shock and Flores Rodriguez's family searching for answers, as they did not know the other two victims and were unaware of any reason why someone would target him.
The investigation into the homicide led authorities to a residence on Snoopy Court NE, where a SWAT team executed a search warrant on January 23, 2020. While no immediate arrests were made at that time, the diligent work of the Marion County Sheriff's Office soon identified a suspect. On February 13, 2020, a grand jury indicted 26-year-old Martin Steven Kirk-Varela on multiple charges, including second-degree murder with a firearm, attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, first-degree assault with a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm. Kirk-Varela was already in custody at the Marion County Correctional Facility on a parole violation at the time of the indictment. Later reports indicate that he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of Eduardo Flores Rodriguez.
