On the night of September 5, 2020, in Woodburn, Oregon, a young Hispanic / Latino man’s life was cut short by gunfire. Javier Montes-Reyes, a 27-year-old male, was fatally shot in an incident that unfolded in the 200 block of Oswald Street. When Woodburn Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting at 11:45 p.m., they discovered Montes-Reyes at the scene. He had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The individual responsible for the shooting had fled before law enforcement arrived, prompting an immediate and active investigation into the homicide.
The investigation into the death of Javier Montes-Reyes was a collaborative effort involving the Woodburn Police Department, the Marion County District Attorney's Office, and Marion County Medical-Legal Death Investigators. Through their combined efforts, a suspect was identified in the fatal shooting. The authorities named 38-year-old Isidro Aguilera Jr. as the individual wanted in connection with the homicide and sought public assistance in locating him.
A breakthrough in the case came on September 13, 2020. At approximately 10:20 a.m., officers with the Wilsonville Police Department located and contacted Isidro Aguilera Jr. at South West 95th Avenue and Ridder Road in Wilsonville. He was taken into custody without incident, marking a significant development in the investigation. Following his arrest, Woodburn detectives were notified, and Aguilera Jr. was subsequently transported to the Marion County Jail. The Woodburn Police Department continued to seek information from the public regarding Aguilera Jr.'s activities and whereabouts in the days between the shooting and his arrest.
