In the late afternoon chill of a late November day in Portland, Oregon, the life of 37-year-old Anthony Tyler McNaughton, a Caucasian male, was tragically cut short. On November 27, 2020, at approximately 2:30 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Northwest Glisan Street and Broadway in the Old Town neighborhood. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered McNaughton suffering from gunshot wounds. He was reportedly inside or near a tent in an area where several people were living at the time of the incident.
Emergency medical aid was rendered at the scene by the responding officers until paramedics could take over. McNaughton was then rushed by ambulance to a local hospital, but despite the efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries. The medical examiner later conducted an autopsy and officially ruled his death a homicide caused by the gunshot wounds.
The Portland Police Bureau launched a homicide investigation into McNaughton's death, securing the crime scene to gather evidence. However, the case has remained unsolved, with no arrests made and no suspects publicly identified. The investigation remains active, with detectives continuing to seek leads. In an effort to generate new information, the FBI has offered a reward of up to $15,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for McNaughton's murder. This is in addition to a reward previously offered by Crime Stoppers of Oregon. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and contact the Portland police detectives assigned to the case.
