On the last night of 2020, a shooting in Portland, Oregon, claimed the life of 18-year-old Jamere Malik Brown, a Black male. Just before 10:30 p.m. on December 31st, North Precinct officers were dispatched to the area of Northeast Alberta Street and Northeast Mallory Avenue after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located two individuals with injuries.
Jamere Malik Brown was one of the two victims found at the scene; he tragically died from a gunshot wound.
The second victim was also injured but survived. Through the course of their investigation, detectives determined that the actual shooting had not taken place where the victims were discovered. The evidence suggested the incident occurred approximately one mile away, in the vicinity of Northeast Durham Avenue and Northeast Madrona Street. It is believed that after the shooting, the surviving victim drove from the location of the gunfire to Northeast Alberta and Mallory. An autopsy later confirmed that Jamere Malik Brown's death was a homicide.
The case of Jamere Malik Brown's death remains an active and ongoing investigation. To date, no suspect information has been released to the public, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. In an effort to generate leads, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for his death. Authorities continue to urge anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward and contact the Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Detectives or the FBI.
