In the early hours of June 5, 2021, the city of Portland, Oregon, recorded another life lost to gun violence. Gary O'Connor, a 45-year-old White/Caucasian male, was found deceased in the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood. The discovery was made near the entrance to the Springwater Trail in the 1900 block of Southeast Ochoco Street after police responded to a report of a shooting at 1:52 a.m.
Upon their arrival, officers located O'Connor's body.
The subsequent investigation by the Oregon State Medical Examiner's office determined that he had died from a gunshot wound, and his death was officially ruled a homicide. Portland Police homicide detectives took charge of the case, seeking information from the public to piece together the events that led to O'Connor's death.
In connection with the killing, authorities later arrested Michael McAllester. McAllester has since been charged with second-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon. Court documents indicate that he has pleaded not guilty to these charges.
