In the early hours of Saturday, February 5, 2022, the life of Corey M. Eady, a 44-year-old Black / African American man, was tragically cut short in a shooting in Portland, Oregon. The incident unfolded around 2:00 a.m. in the Argay Terrace neighborhood, where police were called to an apartment on Northeast 131st Place following reports of gunfire.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Eady suffering from gunshot wounds.
They immediately rendered aid, applying a tourniquet to a wound on his leg in an effort to stop the bleeding. Paramedics with Portland Fire and Rescue and AMR continued life-saving measures before rushing him to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, Corey M. Eady succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office later conducted an autopsy and determined that the cause of his death was a gunshot wound and ruled the manner of death as a homicide.
Eady's death marked the 11th homicide in the city of Portland for that year, all of which had been the result of gun violence. The shooting took place at the same apartment complex where two other individuals had been shot and killed just five weeks prior, on New Year's Day. Homicide detectives with the Portland Police Bureau are actively investigating the case. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and authorities have not released any information about a potential suspect or suspects. The investigation remains ongoing, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
