In the summer of 2016, a young Black man, Damartay "R.J." Dejuan Bonner, 25, found his life cut short in a residence in Charleston, West Virginia. On the evening of August 16th, police were called to a home at 803 57th Street in the Kanawha City area, where they discovered Bonner deceased in the living room from a gunshot wound. The investigation into his death quickly pointed to a connection with drug-related activities, specifically heroin sales.
