Jeffrey 'Jeff' Alan Dye, a 48-year-old resident of Clarksburg, West Virginia, was fatally shot on June 1, 2019. Born on July 21, 1970, in Clarksburg, he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his family. A graduate of South Harrison High School and United Technical Center, Class of 1988, Jeff worked as a machinist and sheet metal worker for Bombardier and was a member of the Salem Rifle and Pistol Club. He enjoyed farming, hunting, and spending time with friends and family.
Jeff was also known for his love of animals, veterans, and his country.
On the day of the incident, Donald Campbell II, 53, confronted Jeff outside Campbell's residence on Dawmont Drive in Clarksburg. During this confrontation, Campbell shot Jeff in the chest, resulting in his death. After being read his Miranda Rights, Campbell admitted to shooting and killing Jeff. He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder.
The legal proceedings culminated on July 8, 2020, when a jury found Campbell guilty of second-degree murder after approximately 20 minutes of deliberation. At that time, the sentencing date had not been scheduled.
Jeffrey Dye's passing was a significant loss to his community, family, and friends, who remembered him for his willingness to help others and his pride in a job well done. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Arlene Lamb Dye, and two children, Erica Nicole Martin and Tucker Alan Dye.
