On a late summer day in Ireton, Iowa, on September 14, 1982, the life of 19-year-old Lisa Ann Vander Esch, a Caucasian female, was cut tragically short. She was in her own backyard with her 16-month-old son when she sustained a single, fatal gunshot wound. The person who fired the shot was her husband, who immediately reported the incident to the authorities, claiming that his rifle had discharged by accident.
