In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Fort Dodge, Iowa, a distress call shattered the quiet of May 17, 2009. At 4:14 a.m., a caller reported that a woman had been shot at a residence at 1323 Fifth Avenue South. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene where they found 42-year-old Rachelle Vega suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed by ambulance to Trinity Regional Medical Center, but her life could not be saved, and she was pronounced dead a short time later.
