On November 11, 2009, a day meant to honor veterans, TereseAnn Marie Lynch, a 30-year-old White female and a veteran of the Iowa Air National Guard who had served three tours overseas, faced a tragic end in Des Moines, Iowa. Her estranged husband, Randall Todd Moore, abducted her at gunpoint from a Target parking lot. Moore forced TereseAnn into his car and took her to his apartment, where the situation escalated into a hostage standoff with police.
Inside the apartment, Moore subjected
TereseAnn to sexual assault before ultimately shooting and killing her. During the standoff, he also shot and wounded Des Moines Police Officer Todd Roland, who was responding to the scene. Moore had a history of domestic violence, and TereseAnn had obtained a protective order against him just a month prior to her death. Friends and family noted that she had been living in fear of him.
Following the standoff, Randall Moore surrendered to the police and was arrested. He was subsequently charged with a litany of violent crimes, including first-degree murder for the death of his wife, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree sexual abuse, and the attempted murder of Officer Roland. Throughout the legal proceedings, Moore showed a chilling lack of remorse for his actions. He even stated in court that he had no regrets about killing TereseAnn.
Ultimately, a jury found Randall Moore guilty on all charges. For the murder, kidnapping, and sexual abuse of TereseAnn, he received three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole. He was handed an additional 25-year sentence for the attempted murder of the police officer, ensuring he would spend the remainder of his life in prison. At his sentencing, the judge condemned Moore's actions, calling him an "evil, hateful, and disgusting" individual.
