On New Year's Day of 2021, the life of 54-year-old Margaret E. Jensen, a White female from Urbana, Iowa, was tragically cut short in a violent act that stunned the small community. The events of that day unfolded when the Urbana Police Department received a chilling 911 call from Margaret's 59-year-old husband, Garry Jensen. In his call, Garry stated that he had shot and killed his wife.
Law enforcement officers were immediately dispatched to the Jensen residence at 300 East Main Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene. Margaret Jensen was found deceased inside the home, the victim of an apparent gunshot wound. Tragically, officers also found Garry Jensen deceased within the residence from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was called in to assist the Urbana Police Department with the investigation. Autopsies conducted by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner later confirmed the initial assessment of the scene. Margaret Jensen's death was officially ruled a homicide caused by a gunshot wound, and Garry Jensen's death was ruled a suicide. With this determination, the investigation concluded that Garry Jensen was the sole perpetrator in the death of his wife, and no other suspects were sought in connection with the case.
Margaret, born on January 10, 1966, was remembered as a woman with a big heart who was full of life. She was the proud owner of a business, Margaret's Turf Care, and also worked as a bartender. Her love for all creatures, especially horses, was a defining characteristic known to those in her community. The tragic event left friends and family to mourn the loss of a beloved mother, stepmother, grandmother, and daughter.
