On a summer evening in West Valley City, Utah, the life of 33-year-old Martin Barron was tragically cut short. On June 26, 2018, Barron, a male, became the victim of a double homicide. Another individual, 37-year-old Chasidy Gerber, was also killed in the violent encounter. The incident unfolded around 7:15 p.m. in the backyard of a home in the area of 1431 W.

The suspected gunman, identified as 33-year-old Kenny Lund, was reportedly nude when he opened fire, fatally wounding both Barron and Gerber. The weapon used in the shooting was later described by investigators as appearing to be an AR-15. Following the shooting, Lund fled the initial scene and was tracked to a second residence located at 1432 W. 3300 South.
A brief standoff with police ensued at the second location. A family member of Lund's had managed to disarm him as he crossed the street and entered the other family member's house. Shortly after, Lund surrendered to the authorities and was taken into custody. Barron's death was later described in his obituary as a "senseless shooting."
