In the winter of 2020, the life of 34-year-old Asian man, Jak Yiek Mun, was tragically cut short in what police have described as a homicide. On the evening of Friday, December 11, 2020, Mun was fatally shot in the Salt Lake City suburb of Murray, Utah.
The incident unfolded around 5:30 p.m. in the vicinity of East Fireclay Avenue and South State Street. According to initial reports from the Murray Police Department, the shooting followed a roadside argument.
Witnesses informed investigators that they observed one or two individuals engaged in a dispute with the driver of a vehicle. Shortly after the argument began, at least one of the individuals outside the car opened fire, striking Mun who was inside the vehicle.
In an attempt to flee the scene, Mun drove a short distance before crashing. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Murray police initiated a homicide investigation and appealed to the public for assistance. They urged anyone who may have witnessed the altercation or had access to surveillance footage from the area to come forward with information.
