In the early morning hours of November 17, 2022, a tragedy unfolded in a Taylorsville, Utah, apartment that resulted in the death of 3-year-old Isaac Sora Trevino-Sichanpheng. The young male child discovered an unsecured handgun and accidentally shot himself.
Police were dispatched to the Thornhill Apartments at approximately 12:15 a.m. following a 911 call from a parent reporting that their child had self-inflicted a gunshot wound.
First responders arrived at the scene and attempted to perform life-saving measures, but the injuries were too severe, and Isaac was pronounced dead at the apartment.
At the time of the incident, both of Isaac's parents were present in the home and were cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Authorities initially treated the event as a tragic accident, and there was no indication of foul play. The immediate focus of the investigation was to determine how the child was able to gain access to the firearm.
As of late 2022, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unsecured firearm was still active. There have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or charges filed in connection with Isaac's death.
