Jorge Luis Llamas Galaviz, a 21-year-old Hispanic man, was a dedicated son and the youngest of his siblings. Born in Rincon de Romos Aguascalientes, Mexico, he was described as a hardworking and friendly person who enjoyed baseball. After nearly four years in the United States, he was just days away from his 22nd birthday and was planning to return to Mexico at the end of the month to care for his sick mother.
He called her regularly to make sure she was well and sent money home to help his family, working hard to support them from afar.
In the early hours of October 13, 2024, his life was cut short inside his Taylorsville, Utah, home. The night began with a party at his residence, where witnesses said Galaviz had an argument with his 44-year-old girlfriend, Ariana Aguilar. During the altercation, she reportedly struck him. Galaviz then asked her to leave and placed her belongings outside. Aguilar left but returned a short time later.
She did not come back alone. According to police, Aguilar returned with her 19-year-old daughter, Natalie Estella Aguilar, and several teenagers. The group allegedly forced their way into the home and entered Galaviz's bedroom. Witnesses inside the house reported hearing voices, followed by a single gunshot.
Police were called to the home for a medical situation around 3:40 a.m. When they arrived, they found Ariana Aguilar inside on top of Jorge Llamas Galaviz, who was lying unresponsive on his bed. Paramedics determined he had died at the scene from a gunshot wound to his neck. The other members of the group had fled, but the red sedan they traveled in from Ogden was later located at Aguilar's residence.
During the investigation, Galaviz's family members contacted law enforcement with a recording in which Ariana Aguilar allegedly stated that she and her "nephews" had killed him, though police do not believe the teens were related to her. Initially, five people were arrested: Ariana Aguilar, Natalie Aguilar, and three teenage boys, ages 15 and 16. Police stated they believed one of the teens was the gunman.
Subsequently, formal charges of murder and aggravated burglary were filed against Ariana Aguilar, Natalie Estella Aguilar, and 17-year-old Alejandro Mendoza. Four other juveniles, ranging in age from 14 to 16, were listed as codefendants in the case. As of late 2024, the case was proceeding through the legal system.
