In the early morning hours of November 1, 2014, the life of 37-year-old Wesley McPherson came to a sudden and tragic end in Hartford, Connecticut. A male native of New Haven, McPherson was a graduate of Norwalk High School and held a bachelor's degree in Art from Hampton University in Virginia. He was employed as a Talent Acquisition Manager for The Dannon Group.
Beyond his professional life, he was a dedicated martial artist, holding a fourth-degree black belt.
On that fateful day, authorities responded to a call at approximately 1:45 a.m. at a residence on Barnard Street. Upon arrival, they found McPherson with a gunshot wound to the chest. Friends who were present at the scene, along with the responding officers, administered CPR until medical help arrived. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 2:25 a.m.
Initial reports from law enforcement indicated that the shooting was accidental and self-inflicted. Witnesses at the scene reported that McPherson had shot himself. The Hartford Police Department's Major Crimes Division investigated the incident. However, there have been no subsequent reports of any arrests being made in connection with his death, and no suspects were ever publicly identified. The case has been consistently reported as a fatal, accidental shooting.
Wesley was the son of Pauline McNair McPherson and the late Johnson McPherson, Jr. He was remembered by friends and family for his sense of humor and big heart. His life was celebrated at a funeral service at The First Congregational Church on the Green in Norwalk, and he was laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
