In the early morning hours of August 5, 2017, a sense of loss descended upon a Hartford, Connecticut neighborhood. Patrick Granville, a 28-year-old Black/African American man, was fatally shot while sitting in a vehicle on Edgewood Street. The incident, which marked the city's 18th homicide of the year, unfolded around 3 a.m. when multiple gunshots shattered the quiet of the night. Granville was struck in the shoulder and neck, and his vehicle subsequently crashed into a parked car.
