In the late hours of August 29, 2020, a young man's life was abruptly ended on a Bridgeport, Connecticut sidewalk. Heriberto Marquez, a 24-year-old male, was discovered near the intersection of Iranistan Avenue and Hanover Street at approximately 11:50 PM. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel who responded to the call.
The nature of his death was described by investigators as an "execution-style murder."
The investigation into the death of Heriberto Marquez remains ongoing, with his case now considered a cold case. In the immediate aftermath, police released a photograph of a white SUV that was seen leaving the area shortly after the shooting. Later, in February 2021, authorities also released images of three males they deemed "persons of interest" in connection with the homicide. The images captured the individuals at a gas station getting out of a white SUV. Despite identifying potential suspects, no arrests have been made in the case.
In an effort to generate new leads, the Bridgeport Police Department has continued to pursue justice for Marquez and his family. They released a 10-minute documentary as part of a "Park City Confidential" series, which highlights cold cases in the city. The video includes interviews with Marquez's family and the lead detective on the case. Additionally, his case has been included in a set of cold case playing cards distributed to inmates within Connecticut's prisons, a method that has helped solve other murders. The family of Heriberto Marquez continues to advocate for answers and has requested that a reward be established for information that leads to an arrest.
