In the early morning hours of Friday, August 20, 2021, a young White/Caucasian man's life was tragically cut short in a burst of violence outside a local establishment. Ryan Dowling, a 27-year-old male from East Hartford, Connecticut, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Malibu Sports Bar and Lounge on Silver Lane. The incident unfolded shortly after midnight, shattering the late-summer night with the sound of gunfire and leaving a community in shock.
Police were dispatched to the
scene around 12:30 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Dowling unconscious and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. First responders immediately began performing CPR before he was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, Ryan Dowling succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. An autopsy later confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound to the neck.
Witnesses at the scene provided investigators with a description of two potential suspects who were seen fleeing the area in a dark-colored sedan. They were described as two Black males in their 20s, both wearing all black clothing. One of the men was described as being tall with a muscular build, while the second was said to be shorter and have short dreadlocks.
The East Hartford Police Department, in conjunction with the Connecticut State's Attorney's Office, launched a homicide investigation into Dowling's death. As of the immediate aftermath of the shooting, no arrests had been made, and the police were actively seeking information from the public to help identify and locate the individuals responsible for this senseless act of violence.
