In the early morning hours of April 24, 2021, the life of 35-year-old William Gonzalez was tragically cut short in an East Hartford, Connecticut parking lot. Gonzalez, a Hispanic male, was found suffering from two gunshot wounds around 7:30 a.m. after police responded to reports of shots fired near Elm and Olmstead Streets. Emergency medical services performed CPR at the scene before rushing him to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect, described by police as a possibly Hispanic male, approximately 6 feet tall, who fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle. This initial lead would eventually bring investigators to a brother and sister with a personal connection to Gonzalez.
On June 2, 2021, the East Hartford Police Department announced the arrests of 35-year-old Angel Martinez and his 32-year-old sister, Ashley Quintana. Martinez was charged with murder and criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, while Quintana faced charges of hindering prosecution. Authorities revealed that Quintana has a child with Gonzalez, establishing a direct link between the victim and the accused.
According to court documents, witnesses placed Martinez at the scene of the crime, arguing with Gonzalez moments before the shooting. Cell phone records also reportedly placed Martinez in the immediate vicinity at the time of the homicide. Investigators allege that Quintana lied to them, providing a false alibi for her brother. While a motive has not been publicly released, the known relationship between the parties suggests a personal dispute may have escalated to a fatal confrontation. Angel Martinez was held on a $1.25 million bond, and Ashley Quintana was held on a $50,000 bond.
