In the quiet community of Simsbury, Connecticut, the life of 57-year-old Linda T. Halligan, a White female, came to a tragic and violent end on the evening of December 12, 2021. What began as a domestic dispute in her Weatogue home on Woodleigh Place escalated into a fatal encounter that left the community in shock. The incident unfolded shortly after 5:00 p.m., shattering the peace of the suburban neighborhood.
A harrowing 911 call was made by an 18-year-old woman, a family member who
had witnessed the terrifying events unfold inside the residence. She managed to flee the home and rush to a neighbor for help, reporting the shooting. When Simsbury police officers arrived at the scene, they found Linda Halligan critically injured from a gunshot wound. First responders immediately began to render aid and she was swiftly transported to St. Francis Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite their efforts, Linda succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
As law enforcement secured the area, they made another grim discovery inside the home. In the garage, they found Linda's 59-year-old husband, Bernard Halligan Jr., deceased. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later officially ruled Linda Halligan's death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound. Her husband's death was ruled a suicide, also from a gunshot wound. Investigators concluded that Bernard Halligan Jr. shot his wife before taking his own life. With this determination, the case was classified as a murder-suicide stemming from an act of domestic violence. As Bernard Halligan Jr. was identified as the sole perpetrator, the investigation determined there were no outstanding suspects, bringing the search for answers to a somber close.
