On the night of December 31, 2023, in a New Britain, Connecticut apartment, an argument over a pair of misplaced shoes escalated into a tragic act of violence that claimed the life of 44-year-old Sabrina Finch. The white female was with her mother and her paralyzed brother when her boyfriend of nearly ten years, 44-year-old Antoine Harris, allegedly became enraged. The dispute reportedly began when Harris accused Finch of stealing his shoes.
In the ensuing moments, Harris is said to have shot Finch's brother in the back as he lay in bed. He then allegedly shot Finch's mother in the leg before turning the gun on Finch, shooting her in the upper abdomen in front of her mother.
Finch was pronounced dead at the scene. Despite her own injury, Finch's mother managed to escape through a window to call for help. When police arrived at the North Street residence, they found Sabrina Finch unresponsive on the floor. Her brother and mother were transported to a local hospital for their injuries. The brother was reported to be in critical condition, while the mother was in stable condition and later released.
Antoine Harris fled the scene after the shooting, but police were able to track him down a short time later. He was taken into custody in a driveway on Richard Street. Harris was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, two counts of first-degree assault, criminal use of a weapon, and criminal possession of a pistol. He was initially held on a $1.8 million bond, which was later increased to $3 million. Friends and family of Finch expressed their grief, with her daughter stating she had long feared for her mother's safety due to Harris's behavior. The incident marked the 15th death related to intimate partner violence in Connecticut in 2023.
