Ryan McKain, a 33-year-old male, was fatally shot in Hartford, Connecticut, on the afternoon of March 2, 2022, in what police have described as a targeted drive-by shooting. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the 600 block of Garden Street. According to authorities, McKain was walking towards his parked car when a black vehicle approached, and an occupant fired multiple shots.
Struck by at least one bullet to the chest, McKain managed to get into his
vehicle and drive away from the scene. However, he crashed into a house on the 200 block of Nelson Street shortly after. Emergency services responded to the crash and transported him to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. In addition to McKain, some area buildings were also struck by gunfire during the attack.
At the time of the incident, law enforcement officials stated that they believed the perpetrators had been lying in wait for McKain. The Hartford Police Department’s Major Crimes and Crime Scene divisions launched an investigation into the homicide. They began canvassing the area for witnesses and video surveillance footage that might help in identifying the suspect vehicle and the individuals involved. Despite the ongoing investigation, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the murder of Ryan McKain. The case is believed to remain an open investigation.
