Africa Bass, a 23-year-old mother of two, was tragically killed on July 27, 2016, in Chicago. She had just moved to a new apartment in the South Chicago neighborhood when she was shot while walking with her aunt shortly after midnight. The incident occurred on her son's fifth birthday, adding a layer of devastation to her family's grief. Bass was shot in the back and chest, and although rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced dead.
Authorities believe she may have been caught in the crossfire of gang-related violence. Her family and local activists have since called for justice and an end to the rampant violence affecting the community.
