Tatiana Baker, a 25-year-old African American woman from Chicago, Illinois, tragically lost her life on December 2, 2020. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Tatiana Baker died from multiple gunshot wounds and injuries sustained from a motor vehicle collision. The events unfolded around 8:30 p.m.
near the Eisenhower Expressway when a dark blue 2020 Chevrolet Equinox SUV began pursuing a white 2015 Kia Optima sedan occupied by Baker, Kiondria Richards, Nautica Banks, and a male driver. During the chase, someone in the Equinox fired shots at the Kia, striking Baker in the lower back. This caused the Kia to crash into a parked car near the intersection of Laramie Avenue and Roosevelt Road.
The crash resulted in the deaths of Kiondria Richards, 21, and Nautica Banks, 23, who were also in the Kia. Richards, who was in the front passenger seat, and Banks, who sat directly behind her, both died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Their deaths, along with Baker's, were ruled homicides. The driver of the Kia, although injured, survived the incident. The occupants of the Equinox fled the scene after their vehicle collided with multiple other vehicles, both parked and in traffic, on Roosevelt Road.
Despite the severity of the incident, no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths of Tatiana Baker, Kiondria Richards, and Nautica Banks. The Chicago Police Department continues to investigate the case, but as of now, there have been no suspects identified or taken into custody. The lack of arrests and ongoing investigation highlight the challenges law enforcement faces in solving such violent crimes.
