On August 12, 2015, in Chicago's East Garfield Park neighborhood, 14-year-old Tracy Davis was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head in the 700 block of North Homan Avenue. Authorities reported that Tracy Davis, a 14-year-old girl, was playing with a firearm alongside a 17-year-old boy when the incident occurred. Following the discharge of the weapon, the 17-year-old male fled the scene but subsequently surrendered to law enforcement.
He was charged with involuntary manslaughter and scheduled for a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.
In a separate incident in Old Mill Creek, Illinois, on August 13, 2019, five teenagers, including 18-year-old Diamond Davis, were involved in an attempted vehicle theft. During the attempt, a 75-year-old homeowner confronted the group and discharged his firearm, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old boy from Chicago. Initially, all five teens were charged with first-degree murder under the felony murder rule. However, the charges were later reduced, and Diamond Davis pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary, receiving a sentence of one year in prison followed by one year of parole.
These cases highlight the tragic consequences of firearm misuse among adolescents and the severe legal repercussions that can follow such incidents.
