On December 28, 1941, Warden James Brooks Jackson, aged 70, of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office in Little Rock, Arkansas, was fatally shot by his assistant warden. The assistant warden believed that Warden Jackson intended to terminate his employment, leading to a tragic confrontation.
Following the incident, the assistant warden was arrested and charged with voluntary manslaughter. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to two years in prison for the crime.
