In the late hours of a Wednesday in Forrest City, Arkansas, the life of 22-year-old Desmond Shaw was tragically cut short. On September 2, 2015, Shaw, a Black male, was in a vehicle with three other individuals in a parking lot when gunfire erupted. Responding to reports of gunshot victims, Forrest City Police discovered the car, marked by bullet holes.

Inside the vehicle, they found four people, including Shaw and 22-year-old Jamie Harris, who had both sustained gunshot wounds. Shaw was rushed to the Forrest City Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. Harris was transported in serious condition to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. The two other occupants of the vehicle, 21-year-old Derrick Holmes and an unidentified juvenile, were unharmed.

The Forrest City Police Department launched an immediate investigation into the shooting. Their efforts quickly led to the identification and arrest of two local men in connection with the fatal incident. Dexter Dukes, 28, and Malik Ursery, 18, both residents of Forrest City, were taken into custody. They were subsequently charged with the death of Desmond Shaw and the battery of Jamie Harris. Following their arrest, both men were detained at the Saint Francis County Jail. At the time of their arrest, the motive for the shooting and the specific events leading up to it remained part of the ongoing investigation, and authorities did not release further details.
