On September 29, 2015, a fatal shooting in North Little Rock, Arkansas, claimed the life of 22-year-old Keon Woodson, a Black male. The events leading to his death began with a disturbance at an Exxon gas station located at 3800 Camp Robinson Road. Gunfire was exchanged between Woodson, who was driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe, and the occupants of another vehicle.
Both vehicles fled the scene following the shootout.
Later that evening, authorities responded to a report of a shooting at 5600 Summertree Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Woodson deceased inside his white Chevrolet Tahoe. He had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The investigation into his death quickly pointed to a suspect.
The day after the shooting, on September 30, 2015, law enforcement officers arrested 20-year-old Danny Ray Dednam in connection with Woodson's murder. Dednam's apprehension followed a vehicle chase in Little Rock, which ended when he crashed his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. He was captured by Little Rock police near South Elm Street and West 18th Street.
Dednam was charged with first-degree murder and four counts of committing a terroristic act. In October 2015, he pleaded not guilty to the charges. His defense attorneys argued that he acted in self-defense, claiming that Woodson had attempted to rob him. Dednam was held without bond at the Pulaski County Detention Center. His trial for the murder of Keon Woodson began in January 2017. During the trial, a judge allowed the testimony of a stepfather and stepson who claimed to have witnessed Dednam at the scene of the shooting. While awaiting trial, in January 2017, Dednam faced separate charges for marijuana possession and weapons offenses.
