In the quiet woods near the Cossatot River, northwest of Lockesburg, Arkansas, a devastating incident unfolded on November 14, 2015. Layne Woods, a 16-year-old White/Caucasian male, was fatally injured in what was determined to be a tragic hunting accident. A sophomore at De Queen High School, Layne was known for his passion for the outdoors, particularly duck hunting, as well as his involvement in football and baseball.
On that Saturday, around noon, Layne was with his 12-year-old brother. The two were reportedly shooting at crows when the accident occurred. The Sevier County Sheriff's Office investigated the shooting and concluded that it was "clearly an accident." Following the incident, Layne was airlifted to Arkansas Children's Hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Layne Woods succumbed to his injuries. The community was deeply saddened by the loss of the young man. In the wake of the tragedy, no arrests were made, as the authorities had ruled out any criminal intent.
