In the early hours of a Saturday morning, the life of 39-year-old Patrick Smith was tragically cut short. On June 20, 2020, inside Club 428 in Little Rock, Arkansas, Smith was found suffering from gunshot wounds. First responders were called to the scene at approximately 12:30 a.m. and quickly transported him to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Despite their efforts, Smith succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives immediately began an investigation into the shooting. They interviewed numerous patrons who were at the club at the time of the incident. From these interviews, a description of the suspected shooter was developed, and it was determined that the individual had fled the scene after the attack. The investigation led police to believe that the shooting was an isolated event and not a targeted attack against the business itself.
Based on the information gathered from witnesses, authorities identified Marlo Atkins as the suspect in the shooting death of Patrick Smith. Atkins was subsequently arrested and faced charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm. Following his death, the Pulaski County Coroner's Office transported Smith's body to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the official cause of death.
