On February 4, 2006, Officer James Walter "Jim" Sell, aged 63, was fatally shot during a routine traffic stop in Gassville, Arkansas. A U.S. Navy veteran, Officer Sell had dedicated over 30 years to law enforcement, serving 27 years with the Blytheville Police Department before retiring as a captain in 2000. He continued his commitment to public safety by joining the Gassville Police Department as a part-time officer in 2003.
